Getting left behind may feel inevitable. If you’re simply observing situations, it sure may feel that way.
But if you’re willing to go out there, you may just find an answer to your problem.
Here are a couple of ways that you should consider.
Immerse Yourself into the Latest Trends
A surefire way to not get left behind is to put yourself in with the latest happenings. Find out what’s new by reading current events or going out and experiencing what’s out there.
If you don’t think you can do it on your own, then let others help you out.
For example, be quick to follow the young ones.
So if your nieces and her friends are always on some website, you might want to check it out, too. If they’re watching this new movie, you might want to be in on that, too. If they’re eating at a buffet Korean restaurant, you might want to do that, too!
As the classic saying goes, you should “do as the Romans do when in Rome”. Because they’re young and they know the latest happenings, it’s their lead that you want to follow.
Then again, while you’re ready to follow the trend, don’t forget to be outstanding as you do it.
This advice seems to contradict itself somehow but here’s an explanation that will hopefully enlighten you:
You see, you’re not advised to just follow the trend. Following blindly is ridiculous.
Rather, you’re supposed to be mindful of who and what you follow. You’re supposed to make a stand.
If this goes well, it’s how you can be outstanding. It’s how you can fight for whatever you’re standing for.
For example, you come across a heated debate about the Massachusetts Uber Tax. And this debate involves people who are against taxes being imposed on taxis and those who think the idea is for a good cause. Instead of simply siding with the first group who takes you in, you need to think things through.
To be outstanding, you have to forget about any self-interest and focus on the subject. Only side with someone or something that you believe in.
You can’t exactly be outstanding if you don’t have a solid ground to stand upon, can you?
On the flip side, getting left behind isn’t the worst thing. It may just be a punch to your ego and serve as a reminder that you’re getting old. But if you look the other way, it also means you’re experienced and wise!
